This method is about as 'Paleo' as it gets. And no i do not follow a Paleo diet. As you can tell the meat is cooked directly on hot coals. I was as skeptical as they come at first, so i decided to make my first time with a cheap steak.
I was also excited to type up an incredibly easy recipe for once! Follow below!
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Steak (anything over 20mm thickness, i used sirloin)
- Salt and Pepper
- Olive Oil
- Lump wood charcoal (Do not, I repeat DO NOT use heat beads or artificial briquettes for this)
WHAT TO DO
It is pretty straight forward, in fact it is incredibly straight forward. So much so i am not even doing bullet points for this recipe!
Light up your charcoal and once all are hot place in a nice even layer in a bbq (I used my hibachi grill) Season steak both sides by applying oil, then salt and pepper. Throw your steak directly on the coals and once you see the brown creep halfway up the side flip it, carefully remove all the charcoal that is stuck with the tongs and cook to internal temperature of your preferred level of steak doneness. Clear both sides of stuck charcoal once done!
